Childhood friends Alex French and Andrew Healy were juggling with the corporate world, entrepreneurship and training for some of the toughest endurance races on the planet.
Sleeping? Not so much.
Frustrated with the lack of healthy alternatives to help them stay alert and productive they launched their own drink: Bizzy Coffee, a USDA organic certified cold brew refreshment.
Delicious, refreshing and a healthy alternative to energy drinks, Bizzy Coffee is is out to help you get busy.
Pun now out of the way, I invite you to read our interview with Alex French, co-founder of this passionate cold brew company.
Obligatory first question. How many cups of coffee do you guys drink per day?
A cup of coffee is such a subjective term, but I’d say on average I have roughly 4-5 cups of coffee per day. The beauty of Bizzy Coffee is that I can make my coffee as strong or as weak as I like. I typically make some strong cups in the morning and weaker ones in the afternoon.
You guys have a list of mouth watering cold brew recipes on your website, including baked goods. What has been the most popular recipe to this day?
Mouthwatering indeed! Hands down our most shared recipe is our Peanut Butter Mocha Smoothie (hint: our cover picture). My personal favorite is super simple and healthy. One 2oz shot of Bizzy Coffee, one scoop of vanilla protein and 1 cup of water.
What is the Bizzy Project and how did it come to be?
The Bizzy Project is our way of giving back to our community of Bizzy People. We understand the challenges of starting a business and know how important capital is to be able to compete and be successful. We’ve always been passionate about entrepreneurship and giving back and this was a fun way to combine the two. Look for big things for the Bizzy Project 2017.
What is harder, starting a coffee business or participating in the 24 hours endurance race World’s Toughest Mudder?
Starting a Coffee Beverage company is extremely difficult, definitely harder than the 24 hour Tough Mudder. The beautiful thing about the World’s Toughest Mudder is that everything is completely in my control. If I want to do better I try harder. If I want to quit, I can just go right ahead and stop.
In business, there are so many things that are out of your control that it makes it extremely difficult. Not only is it difficult to get someone to buy your product, but it requires significant capital, which is very difficult to acquire for a startup beverage company.
Who inspires you?
I’m inspired by my business partner Andrew. He has the most insane work ethic I have ever seen. When he sets his mind on doing something he is going to achieve it no matter what.
Hot or cold, I always enjoy coffee with some reading. What is the best book you’ve read in the past year?
The best book I’ve read in the last year is one called Never Eat Alone. It’s probably classified as a business book but has so many incredible life lessons. It’s really helped me to pursue my business and develop long lasting relationships that consistently pay dividends.
What do you add to your cup of Bizzy Coffee?
I’m all over the place. The beautiful thing about Bizzy is that it's so versatile I can do anything with it.
Here’s how I had Bizzy Coffee today. This morning I was running a bit late so while I was at home I ripped a shot Bizzy as I walked out the door. When I got into the office I made a nice tall glass of iced cold brew, mixing 2 parts water to one part Bizzy. After lunch I had another shot of Bizzy Coffee while I was working at my standing desk. In the afternoon I’m planning on having an iced cold brew mixed with unsweetened almond milk.
Tomorrow is a holiday party at our coworking space and we’ll be having Bizzy Cocktails and Bizzy Beers.
Thanks for doing this, guys! Where can people learn more about Bizzy
